It honestly feels like a treat to play such an endearing game. The way the snow fell slowly and gracefully down my screen was mesmerizing and soundtrack was perfectly composed to accompany it. There’s a world with a never-ending snowstorm and when I walked into it for the first time I took one look and I stopped moving my controller – it was stunning. No matter where I travelled in Jotun‘s mythological world, I always had a good time because each area is unique and teeming with personality. It’s rare to see a title so crisp and refined that it’s obvious how much effort was put into each moment of it, but Jotun is one of those games. The completely hand-drawn visuals make every aspect of it shine with a charming cartoon glow. That may seem like hyperbole, but it’s not. The game really is that pretty. Those that had enjoyed the game on Wii U™, especially, will notice an evident graphical upgrade in the new release. It’s best to use these only if it suits the specific project. There’s another way to make big changes at the mastering stage – by using more ‘characterful’ devices that make their own imprint in terms of tone, a bit of saturation, or even full-on tape emulation. The final item in your mastering chain should always be a Limiter, that’s your last chance to boost and optimise the volume, making sure that your rendered stereo file will be as ‘loud’ as possible – or rather, will have the best possible dynamics and in this case, ‘best’ means most appropriate for your project, usually a decision based on genre. Try putting this before EQ Eight if you’re going to use M/S processing. EQ Eight handles the EQ or filtering of the Mid and Side sections, while Utility can make further changes to the stereo image – by defining how much of the mix is mono, and editing the stereo width of the remainder. In Live this is achieved through EQ Eight, and the Utility device pairs up very well with that. ![]() Mid/Side processing is the term used to describe when the centre, mono, portion of a stereo signal is separated from the ‘outer’, stereo section – the parts that are not common throughout the stereo image. Stereo imagingĪnything with a Dry/Wet mix can be really helpful with mastering, where you can set a more extreme amount of compression, then dial back the Wet mix to retain more of the original unprocessed sound. You can start from scratch, building your own settings, or use the device presets, or audio effect racks that include it. The thresholds, levels, and frequencies of each band are adjustable, making this a powerful tool for improving stereo mixes. Multiband Dynamics is like having three compressors in one, covering low, mid, and high, between them: you could replicate this by making a rack containing three separate compressors, but it’s more convenient to use, and easier to visualise with Multiband Dynamics. Now you can edit smarter and take better control of the musical relationships in your song.As a general rule of thumb, we’d recommend you not to warp a track that you’re mastering unless there’s a specific request to change tempo, which isn’t usually something that you should be dealing with at this point. Exactly what goes into making them? Is it some dark, morally-ambiguous ritual? Some pact with a magical being? Some kind of special material? Does it vary by individual blades? What sort of history do the blades of bladebound magi have in comparison to those of blade adepts? With yet another black blade-based archetype out there, one that actually seems to make them, rather than find and utilize them. Either way, a strong buff and control game can work wonders here. Alternately, you can build as an ordinary caster, but when the time comes, you can empower your blade with your or its reservoir and use it to fend off melee foes. A strong buff suite can put them up there with your average warrior for a while. This is a tricky archetype to use, because it is not a true warrior class. They can continue their mastery of their magic blades even if they branch out into a prestigious arcane specialization, learn various magus arcana, deliver touch spells through their blades, learn various martial techniques both mundane and magical, and even specialize in a weapon, most likely their bonded black blade. With their specialization being what it is, these arcanists pick up a unique set of exploits that they can learn. Through some ritual, the requirements being left conveniently ambiguous, these arcanists transform their bonded sword into a full-fledged black blade, which grows in power as they do, with all the abilities associated with the strange magic swords, both offensive and defensive. To start, these arcanists bond themselves with a sword of some kind, using it as a focus for their spells the way a wizard might with any other bonded object, save that in their case, it must be a sword, and they learn to use is as an actual weapon as well. While not front-line fighters, they can prove formidable in their own way. In any case, these arcanists blur the line between magic and martial with an emphasis on the magic. In fact, the connection between blade adepts and the bladebound might imply a connection between arcanists and magi in general, due to the similarities between magus arcana and arcanist exploits. Today’s archetype, however, implies an origin for most such weapons.īlade adepts, while not truly warriors in any respect, nevertheless master the use of their own personal magic swords, which eventually turn into black blades, gaining a will and magic of their own. ![]() However, there was never really an explanation for what the black blades were, or where they come from.
